Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe Join as Members of World Lacrosse

World Lacrosse, the international governing body for lacrosse, extended a warm welcome to four new members from Africa: Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This exciting development brings the total number of National Governing Bodies under World Lacrosse to 90.

The addition of these African nations marks a significant milestone in the expansion of lacrosse globally. It also strengthens the presence of this sport on the African continent by increasing its representation within the Africa Association of Lacrosse (AAL) to 15 member nations.

This growth is not only beneficial for World Lacrosses’ global influence but also has positive implications for each individual nation that joins. 2023 proved particularly successful with a record-breaking eleven new members joining World Lacrosse’s ranks during that year alone! Including those who joined earlier in 2022; there were seventeen new additions overall throughout these two years.

Botswana’s acceptance as a member is expected to spur interest in lacrosse amongst its population while providing more opportunities for youth involvement at various levels – whether it be playing or officiating games.

Similarly, Mozambique can now look forward to increased exposure and participation rates within local communities due to being part of such an internationally recognized federation like World Lacrose.

Zambia will undoubtedly benefit from enhanced training resources available through membership which could potentially lead up-and-coming athletes pursuing careers professionally in future competitions!
